About Hanmer Springs

Hanmer Springs is an alpine village set amongst a beautiful backdrop of valleys and mountains, situated 136km north of Christchurch. One of New Zealand's major health retreats, Hanmer is famous for its picturesque natural geothermal pools. 

The Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve offers a large outdoor complex where you can indulge yourself and experience the invigorating feeling of the thermal waters, hydro slide or the new super bowl, plus have a therapeutic massage, beauty treatment or even a private sauna. 

This charming mountain hamlet is also an ideal place for outdoor pursuits for visitors of all ages and a pleasant temperate climate means you enjoy different pursuits to follow the seasons. You will be spoilt for choice with so much to do, including golf, fishing, tramping, forest walks, mountain biking, swimming, horse riding, jet boating, rafting, 4WD tours, heli skiing and scenic flights, skiing, abseiling, kayaking, canoeing, or just relaxing in a sunny spot with a good book and enjoying the peace and tranquillity Hanmer offers. There are also some very pleasant walks east of the village through Hanmer Forest Park, one of the country's oldest exotic forests.
