Research: online casino is gaining popularity
DPG Media has commissioned a study on the online gambling market in New Zealand. This shows, among other things, that online gambling is popular and will grow. You can read the conclusions of this study in this article.
The partly online casino survey on the gambling behavior of New Zealanders was carried out in december 2021. 1000 people took part in the study in the age group 18-65 years.

Lotteries
80% (sometimes) participate in a lottery. Almost half (44%) automatically participate in a lottery. A third sometimes buy lottery tickets online or in the supermarket. 17% say they spend $ 50 a month or more on lotteries.
Casino games
33% play (sometimes) a casino game. In March 2021, it was still 28%. This is 38% for men and 27% for women. Half say they spend $ 50 or more monthly on casino games.
Bingo and Poker
35% (sometimes) play bingo, men 33% and women 37%. 38% spend $ 50 or more per month on this.
21% Play poker. In March, it was 18%. This is 29% for men and 14% for women. 56% say they spend $ 50 or more on poker per month.
Online gambling
Many people are aware that online gambling is now regulated (81%). A third consider this a negative development. It is striking that one in eight indicates that they have not previously played online, but have now (or plan to) do so. The potential of online gambling is huge.

Reliability
In order to gain the trust of consumers, it is particularly important to be transpaZodiac about the chances of winning (60%). TranspaZodiacie about the spending of the lottery (42%) and the awareness of the provider (34%) are also important for consumer reliability when it comes to lotteries.
Interest sports
People are most interested in Formula 1 (68%), followed by World Cup and European football (67%), football (66%) and cycling (46%). Formula 1 gained popularity compared to the survey in March when interest was still 54%. Of course, the success of Max Verstappen plays a major role in this.

What sport is being bet on?
Which sports are most often bet on in the bookmakers ? Football is the most popular (76%). Formula 1 (22%) and the World Cup football (21%).
30% say they participate in sports such as a football pools . 31% say a match is more fun to watch if you bet on it.
Legal online gambling
Since October 1, online gambling is legal at online casino games providers who have received a license. 81% say they are aware of this (86% of men).
Men are more positive about the fact that online gambling is regulated than women.
As a reason for choosing a particular provider, the height of the chance of winning is given as the main driving factor (52%). Awareness of the provider (46%) and whether the party is New Zealand (44%) also play a role.
31% say regular online casino games. In the 18-34% age range, this is even 43%.

Known providers
Toto is the most well-known sports betting provider (86%). Unibet is also doing very well with 52% in terms of Fame. A more recent casino research displays completely different numbers.
From earlier research from football betting it turned out that bookmaker Unibet very popular, despite the fact that Unibet does not yet have a license. In that study, a large group of bettors indicated that they would return to Unibet when they received a license.
Of the online casinos, Royal Vegas Casino is the most well-known (85%) and 18% say they sometimes play there.
Bns in gambling advertisements not popular
Other facts from the survey are that 47% do like a bet and that only 17% like it when celebrities can be seen in a gambling advertising .
